Brief Bio and artist's statement
I was born in Athens, Greece in 1966. By profession I
am a Biologist. I have a PhD on the molecular mechanisms
underlying the process of Photosynthesis. My post-doctoral
research was carried out at the University of California,
Los Angeles, where I had the chance to study the internal
biological clock of higher plants. For the last seven
years, I have been working as a Bioinformatics Scientist
for companies in the US and Greece. You can see more of my
recent professional activities
here.
My love for the outdoors preceded that of photography. My
undergraduate training in Biology presented me with plenty
of opportunities to explore the outdoors and deepen my
understanding of natural habitats and the need to preserve
them. In the late 90's I moved to California. Although,
taking photographs from the mid-80's, it was during this
period that my interest in landscape photography grew.
Being able to experience at first hand the landscapes that
inspired the big legends of landscape photography was key
in my taking up landscape photography more seriously. That
interest quickly turned into a passion.
In the last few years I have been living in Greece. My
subject matter is centered around intimate views of the
landscape. In getting close to nature, I seek a sense of
solitude and inner peace. My photography follows (well, at
least this is my goal). In any case, this is an open-ended
journey. Hope you enjoy visiting these pages. If what you
see here means anything to you, please leave a comment. I'd
really appreciate that!

Artist's statement
I approach nature with a sense
of awe and humility. At the same time I do believe that the
connection with the natural world is essential for our
sense of balance and inner peace. My need to express this
connection coupled with a long lasting interest in
photography naturally led me to landscape photography. When
creating landscape images my aim is to present the viewer
with an intimate view of the landscape, a sense that he/she
has the 'privilege' of being alone with the view
confronting him/her. My subject matter is currently
centered around the landscapes of Greece. The Greek
landscape is characterized by an extreme diversity ranging
from dense forests in the north to some extremely rugged
terrains in the south. Yet this land is currently under
immense threat from the rise of tourism coupled with
uncontrolled construction for the purposes of leisure on
areas previously uninhabited and wild. I hope my images
will help towards any conservation efforts taking place in
this country.
